Mialitiana Clerc

Ski racer, x2 Olympian

I am Mialitiana Clerc, i am 22 years old and i've been practicing alpine skiing since i was 3 years old. I've been adopted at the age of 1 by a french couple who was living in Haute Savoie. In the french mountains !! My parents started to teach me alpine skiing until i started ski lessons like everyone. I used to do a lot of different activities when i was younger: alpine skiing, classic and modern dance classes. I even was a violinist and pianist at a time haha !

Then i started alpine ski racing in some different ski clubs around my town. When i turned 16 years old, i took the opportunity to race for the Madagascar Ski Federation. I did a lot of races to get the necessary points and qualified for the Winter Olympic Games of PyeongChang 2018. I took the 47th and 48th places at only 16 years old. I was the only Malagasy athlete during this event so i also had the chance to be the flag bearer during the opening and closing ceremonies. It was an incredible experience with my dad supporting me from the course side and my mom who cheered me at 2 or 3 am from home.

I went to the World Ski Championships in Åre 2019 and did 40th and 50th.

I did my bests results during the 2020-2021 season with 31,16 points but it ended up quickly with a big injury. On the January 7th of 2021 I broke my Tibia and Fibula.

But it didn't stopped me there !! I've been working hard to come back because there were a few months left to get ready for the next Winter Olympics. And i only had less than a year to come back and live this dream again. Before my injury, i wanted to do better results because it's a part of an athlete career. Getting better and better each days, improving our skills. But i only had a few months to get some strength back, to develop enough confidence and do my best ski in China. It was scary, not to be ready, to injure again, to fail... but all doubts disappeared because i also wanted to have fun, to ENJOY and love what i was doing. So all the results came after this mindset.

I was so happy about my Olympic results despite the big injury, the Covid situation and all the big changes i had to get used to during the 2020-2021 season.

But fortunately i was ready for the World Ski Championships 2023 in Courchevel-Méribel !! I did my bests results with a 41st and 39th places closer to the best alpine skiers.

Some important friends and family members came to watch the race and my parents were there to support me, live this moment together, and we were all proud of me.
